CUTICLES - DESCRIPTION

Cuticles are inflammation of the folds of skin in the corners of the nails on the hand or foot, and are more often a chronic fungal infection than an acute illness. The nail grows faster than the cuticle around it and because of this the delicate and thin cuticle around the nail stretches and cracks, and sometimes creates sores. The skin shows irritation by redness and occasional cracking. Cuticles are most often the result of an infection caused by staphylococci.

Cuticles are most often caused by dry skin, and can sometimes be caused by something else, such as improper manicure, chemicals, or a lack of vitamins and minerals in the body. Cuticles most often occur in the winter due to dry and cold air that adversely affects the skin.
