Infertility is a disease of the reproductive system defined as the absence of a clinical pregnancy after 12 or more months of regular unprotected intercourse. Infertility can be present in both partners or be undetectable even by modern medicine (idiopathic infertility). We distinguish two types of inability to conceive in women: primary infertility in women who have never given birth and secondary infertility in women who have conceived regardless of whether it was an ectopic pregnancy, termination of pregnancy or abortion.

There are physical causes of infertility, in men it means reduced sperm count, poor motility or reduced normal sperm count. Causes can be congenital, acquired, environment, habits, age and more. In a large number of cases, the cause of reduced fertility cannot be found, but the average sperm count in men seems to have decreased since the early 20th century so much that some experts talk about an infertility epidemic. The causes can be varicose veins on the testicles (varicocele) that heat the testicles and thus negatively affect the production of normal sperm, undescended testicles, hormonal disorders (eg testosterone deficiency), infections (eg mumps), genetic reasons, immune, chemotherapy, lack of some vitamins , alcohol, smoking, stress, age, harmful chemicals and more.

Physical causes in women can be much more complicated and include reduced or unpredictable ovulation (due to hormonal disorders, polycystic ovaries or age), inability of eggs or sperm to reach the uterus (clogged fallopian tubes, antibodies to sperm) or reduced ability to implant the embryo, endometriosis or immune problems). Oviduct obstruction can be caused by infections such as chlamydia, ectopic pregnancies, endometriosis and more. Polycystic ovaries are primarily a hormonal disorder that produces too many male hormones and interferes with ovulation. Such women produce many follicles, but the eggs are often immature. Sometimes infertility can be caused by some medications, however, there are still cases where no visible cause has been observed. In such circumstances, doctors may suggest any of the relaxation and stress relief techniques.
